Self-Defense prevents other applications from removing or blocking Kaspersky Anti-Virus. It is enabled by default, but you may need to disable it for diagnostic purposes in case of issues with your Kaspersky Anti-Virus application.

Disabling Self-Defense partially limits the functionality of Kaspersky Anti-Virus and lowers the level of overall system protection.

To enable or disable Self-Defense:

  1. Click the settings icon in the lower-left corner of the Kaspersky Anti-Virus main window. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
  2. Select Additional → Self-Defense.
  3. Select or clear the Enable Self-Defense checkbox.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Click Restart now if prompted.

What to do if you cannot enable or disable Self-Defense

If you experience any difficulties with enabling or disabling Self-Defense in Kaspersky Anti-Virus, submit a request to Kaspersky Lab Technical Support via the My Kaspersky portal. Please include a detailed description of the issue.

For instructions on how to use My Kaspersky, see the Online Help page.
