This topic explains why FREEDOME VPN tries to access the Let’s Encrypt website.
If you monitor the network traffic from FREEDOME VPN on Windows, you may notice an HTTPS connection to address https://valid-isrgrootx1.letsencrypt.org/. FREEDOME VPN uses the Let’s Encrypt certificates on our servers for the IPSec connectivity. As Microsoft Windows doesn’t automatically update all the Let’s Encrypt root certificates, this might result in a non-working VPN connection. However, Windows includes a feature which downloads the correct Let’s Encrypt root certificate as soon as an HTTPS connection is made to this website.
FREEDOME VPN utilizes this Windows feature only if it can’t find the correct root certificate already in the Windows’ certificate store. Once FREEDOME VPN has downloaded the correct root certificate and it has been included in the Windows’ certificate store, no further connections are made to the Let’s Encrypt website.
