Norton runs most background tasks when your computer is idle. This helps your computer run at peak efficiency when you use it. However, you can manually start or stop a background task at any time. You can also specify the Idle Time Out duration. After the Idle Time Out duration is reached, Norton identifies the computer as idle and runs the background tasks.

Monitor Norton background tasks

  1. Start Norton.

If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

  2. In the Norton main window, click Settings.
  3. In the Settings window, click Administrative Settings.
  4. In the Background Tasks row, click Configure.
  5. In the Background Tasks window, view the details of background jobs.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • To run a background job, click the play icon that appears before the name of the background job.
    • To stop a running background job, click the stop icon that appears before the name of the background job.
  7. Click Close.
