Changes/Improvements

  • Updated Inform component with the following changes:
    • Added Inform Actions feature with the following capabilities:
      • Refresh – This will force a re-scan of the device and update all applicable areas of Inform
      • Export to Clipboard
      • Export to Text File
    • Added Details view for the Programs tile in Inform (Inform > Applications > Programs and Features)
      • Clicking the link that states the number of installed Desktop programs will launch a Details window with the following information for each program:
        • Name
        • Publisher
        • Date (of install)
        • Platform (e.g. x86, x64, etc.)
    • Added Details view for the Windows Features tile in Inform (Inform > Applications > Programs and Features)
      • Clicking the link that states the number of installed Windows Features will launch a Details window with the following information for each feature:
        • Display Name (aka Friendly Package Name)
        • Feature Name (aka Package Name)
    • Added Details view for the Application Problems tile in Inform (Inform > Applications > Programs and Features)
      • Clicking the Details link will launch a Details window with the following information on each crash and/or hang (grouped by process name):
        • .EXE
        • Module
        • Time
        • Error
        • Message
    • Added Details view for the Blue Screens tile in Inform (Inform > History > Blue Screens)
      • Clicking the Details link will launch a Details window with the following information on each crash:
        • Date (of crash)
        • Bugcheck Code (AKA BSOD Error Code)

        • Description (of BSOD/Bugcheck code)
        • File Path (to crash dump file)
    • Added Command Line Interface options to silently perform an Inform Export from MBTSLauncher.exe or MBTS.exe
      • /scan:inform /logfile:”PATH TO FILE” – Silently runs an Inform operation and outputs the results in plain text to the file specified.
      • If /LogFile is not specified, then the Inform Export text file is saved to %UserProfile%\Desktop\Inform_%COMPUTERNAME%_%DATE&TIME%.txt
      • If only a file name is specified for /LogFile (e.g. “Inform Log File.log”), then the specified file will be saved to %MBTS_ROOT% (aka the directory where MBTSLauncher.exe is stored).
    • Combined the Application Crashes and Application Hangs tiles in to a shared Application Problems tile
    • Updated the Operating System tile to report if Windows 10 Version 1809 (17763.253 or higher) is not installed on a Windows 10 device (Inform > System > Operating System)
  • Added Quarantine Manager to the Malwarebytes Portable Scanner with the following features:
    • List, Restore, and Delete objects stored in the Quarantine of the Malwarebytes Portable Scanner on the local device
    • List, Restore, and Delete objects stored in the Quarantine of the an installed instance of Malwarebytes on the local device. The following products are supported:
      • Malwarebytes for Windows 3.6.1 and higher
      • Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection
      • Malwarebytes Breach Remediation 3.6.1 and higher
    • The Quarantine Manager is accessed by clicking Manage Quarantine in the settings drop down menu (gear icon) under the Malwarebytes Portable Scanner area of Scan
      Note: Quarantined items are grouped by family name and time the group was quarantined.
  • Updated Malwarebytes Breach Remediation for Windows (MBBR for Windows) in the following areas of the Malwarebytes Toolset:
    • Added Malwarebytes\MBBRv3\x64 – 64-bit version of Malwarebytes Breach Remediation v3.6.1.243 (mbbr.exe) and related files
      • Included with MBTS Full package (https://toolset.malwarebytes.com/file/mbts_full), downloaded on-demand via the Toolbox, or downloaded manually from MBTS Updater (Toolbox > MyTools > Check for Updates)
    • Added Malwarebytes\MBBRv3\x86 – 32-bit version of Malwarebytes Breach Remediation v3.6.1.243 (mbbr.exe) and related files
      • Included with MBTS Full package (https://toolset.malwarebytes.com/file/mbts_full), downloaded on-demand via the Toolbox, or downloaded manually from MBTS Updater (Toolbox > MyTools > Check for Updates)
    • Updated MBBR Command Prompt and MBBR CLI Scan (Toolbox > Remediate) to do the following:
      • On Windows 7 and higher: MBBR for Windows version 3.6.1.243 and higher is utilized
      • On Windows Vista and XP: MBBR for Windows Legacy version 2.7.2.1655 is utilized
    • Added MBBR for Windows Batch File (Malwarebytes\MBBRv3\mbbrv3.cmd) to help with CLI automation of MBBR for Windows (v3.6.1.243 and higher).
      • Includes support for the following optional parameters/switches:
        • /key YOUR-MBTS-KEY-HERE – Allows you to specify an MBTS or MBBR license key to use with the batch file
        • /auto – Performs a Threat Scan after automatically updating and wp-signup.phping the device. Requires use of the /key parameter.
          Note: Windows 7 or higher is required for using MBBR for Windows (v3.x and higher)
      • Updated MBBR for Windows Legacy (v2.7.2.1655) component with the following changes:
        • Added support for the following optional parameters/switches to mbbr.cmd batch file:
          • /key YOUR-MBTS-KEY-HERE – Allows you to specify an MBTS or MBBR license key to use with the batch file
          • /auto – Performs a Threat Scan after automatically updating and wp-signup.phping the device. Requires use of the /key parameter.
        • Updated mbbr.cmd to provide better error handling
  • Updated the Default Services Issue Scanner of the Malwarebytes Issue Scanner with the following features:
    • Added support to detect and repair the Print Spooler Service on all versions of Windows
    • Added support to detect and repair the Printer Extensions and Notifications Service (PrintNotify) on applicable versions of Windows
    • Added support to detect and repair the Interactive Services Detection Service (UI0Detect) on applicable versions of Windows
  • Updated MBTS Updater (Toolbox > MyTools > Check for Updates) with the following changes:
    • Added MBBR for Windows (v3.x) package download and update support
      Note: MBBR database definitions are not updated via the MBTS Updater.
    • Added MBBR for Windows Legacy (v2.x) package download and update support
      Note: MBBR database definitions are not updated via the MBTS Updater.
    • Added logic to improve download performance of updates
    • Added support to include a small reason/note for an update where the major version doesn’t change
    • Added logic to utilize LastUpdate.json to support improved component package updating experience, performance, and stability
    • Added logic to cleanup temporary package files used during the component update process

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that caused SMART Attribute Error 197 (Current Pending Sector Count) to use the description content of SMART Attribute Error 187 (Reported Uncorrectable Errors)
  • Fixed a bug that caused Inform to not display the Windows Defender icon on Windows 10
  • Fixed a bug that caused Inform to display “Samsung” on Silicon Power (SPCC) based disk drives (reported by Andrew Marcelli of Ohio TechWorks)
  • Fixed a bug that caused MBBR CLI Scan and MBBR Command Prompt to fail when certain characters are present in the path of mbbr.exe (reported by Carlos Mack)
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Default Services Issue Scanner not to detect issues with the Print Spooler Service (reported by Sean McCormack of Magnify247.com)
  • Fixed a bug that caused the final download speed of an update to report as 0 KB
  • Fixed several bugs that caused the MBTS Updater to fail to download or update several components of the Malwarebytes Toolset.
  • Fixed a bug that could prevent the Malwarebytes Toolset from updating itself.
  • Fixed a bug that could allow an extra instance of MBTS.exe to launch if CLI options are used.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause Inform Export and launching Toolbox items from CLI to fail if the system was offline.
