These steps are for the current version of the Norton products. If you have an older version or if you do not know your product version, go to Norton Update Center.
STEP 1: Modify the Firewall Program Rules
- Start Norton.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click .
- Click .
- In the Settings window, click .
- On the Program Control tab, in the Program column, scroll through the list until you find the executable file for the program that you cannot use.
- Do one of the following:
- If you find the entry for the executable file of the program, change the Access to and go to line 15.
- If you cannot find the entry for the executable file, click .
- Browse and select the executable file for the program that you want to configure, and click .
- Select from the drop-down list and click .
- In the Add Rule window, select , and click .
- Select , and click .
- Select , and click .
- To apply this rule to all ports, select , and click .
- Select , and click .
- Type in a description for this rule, and click .
- Review the information about the rule. If it is correct, click .
- In the Firewall window, click and then click .
If the problem persists, skip to Step 2.
STEP 2: Change the trust level of the network computer
- Start Norton.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click .
- Click .
- In the Settings window, click .
- In the General Settings tab, under Network Settings, next to Network Trust, click .
- Click the name of the network computer in the network map for which you want to change the trust level.
- Under Trust Level, from the drop-down list, select .
- Click and then .
- Click .
If the problem still persists, skip to Step 3.
STEP 3: Uninstall the non-Norton security product
This problem can happen due to conflict with non-Norton security product installed in the computer. If you do not have any non-Norton security product, you can skip this step.
You can also read the program documentation or contact the program manufacturer for instructions to remove a non-Norton security product from your computer.
- Press the + keys to open the Run dialog box.
- Type in the following text, and then press Enter.
appwiz.cpl
- In the list of currently installed programs, select the non-Norton security product, and then click or .
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- When the uninstall completes, restart the computer.
