Learn answers to frequently asked questions about the Malwarebytes Nebula next-gen scanning engine.

Will this update require a restart, and what can end-users expect?

In most instances, endpoints will require a restart after the update is installed. Restarts are handled as configured via your policy configuration. We recommend reviewing your policy configuration found in the Reboot Options section.

Even though this update is being gradually released, can I manually force my Windows endpoints to obtain this update sooner than later?

The October 21st update is a metered release, but you can manually force your Windows endpoints to obtain this update via the existing “Check for Software Update” action. Once the update is downloaded, the new “Software Update Available” status will appear, indicating that the update has been downloaded and is ready to be installed. Simply click this new status indicator to proceed.

Does this update also apply to new installations?

Beginning October 21, new installations will automatically use the new next-gen engine.

Will an update be provided for Malwarebytes Incident Response?

We are planning a similar update for Incident Response customers. More information will be available in the near future – stay tuned!

Is it possible to downgrade from version 4.x to version 3.x?

No – version downgrades are not supported.

I participated in the Early Access program for this update. Do I need to do anything after October 21?

Your endpoints will seamlessly upgrade to a newer software version.  Note, the “Early Access” policy setting will no longer have any effect after this date, and will be hidden removed from the console in the following weeks.

My organization uses third-party deployment tools such as SCCM. Do I need to update the Windows Endpoint Agent MSI package for this update?

As a general practice, it’s a good idea to keep the MSI package current. But just in case you’re using an older installer version, rest assured that the software will still update accordingly after installation

Can I postpone this update?

Software updates can be paused up to 31 days by enabling the Pause software updates policy setting.

Are Windows XP, Vista, Server 2008 supported with the next-gen engine (version 4.x)?

Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 (non-R2 editions) will remain on the version 3.x engine, but will continue receiving Protection updates. For more information, visit our Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection Product Lifecycle page.
