What is a system registry
A system registry is a database with the information about the settings and configurations of your computer and the operating system (Windows).
The registry contains the following information which is used by Windows:
- User account information
- information about installed applications and file types
- Properties of folders and applications
- Software configurations
- Information about open ports

How to make changes to the system registry
Only edit the system registry if requested by a support engineer. Carefully follow the steps provided when editing. Incorrect changes to the system registry may cause malfunction of your operating system.
Recommendations on editing the system registry:
- Before editing a system registry, create a backup copy of the existing version.
- Do not replace the current registry with a registry or parts of the registry from another operating system.
To open the system registry and change a value:
- Simultaneously press Win and R keys on your keyboard.
- Type regedit and click OK.
- Open the subkey and double-click it.
- Enter the new value provided by the support engineer.
- Close the registry editor.
- Restart your PC.
The changes will be applied.
