Is Bitdefender compatible with macOS Big Sur?

Overview

After the macOS Catalina update to version 10.15.4, released on March 24, 2020, all Bitdefender users will probably see this warning:

Legacy System Extension

Existing software on your system loaded a system extension signed by “Bitdefender SRL”, which will be incompatible with a future version of macOS. Contact the developer for support.

Apple has already announced that the next major version of macOS will deprecate the support for kernel extensions. Specifically, Apple will replace kernel programming interfaces (KPIs) with EndpointSecurity and NetworkExtension APIs, which technically are entirely different. Is Bitdefender compatible with macOS Big Sur?

As of December 2020, our app provides support for this technology. Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac is fully compatible with macOS Big Sur (version 11.x) and all new Macs with ARM-based Apple Silicon processors.

Yes, Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac is currently compatible with Apple ARM-based CPUs known as Apple M1.

Is Bitdefender running natively on ARM processors or emulated through Rosetta 2?

Starting with version 9.0.0.3 released in June 2021, Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac runs natively on the Apple M1 processors.

You don’t need Rosetta 2 during the setup process to run Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac on a new Mac with ARM-based Apple silicon processor. (Rosetta 2 enables Intel-based apps to run on Apple M1 chips processors into commands that Apple’s chips can understand).
