TotalAV protects against many of the different types of viruses out on the wild web today. Our team strives to keep on top of the threat landscape and ensure our antivirus engine is kept up to date with the very latest definitions. The different types of computer virus break down to the following:
Virus – Software that infects a computer and can copy itself to other computers without user knowledge or consent.
Malware – Short for malicious software, most viruses we deal with are malware. These viruses are designed to harm a computer, interfere with user data or make computers perform actions without user consent.
Trojan Horse – A type of malware, but hidden in software that looks perfectly okay, but has hidden malicious intent.
Worm – Another type of malware that not only has malicious intent, but is developed to look for security flaws in network systems in order to spread.
Spyware – Similar to a Trojan Horse, but with different intent, Spyware aims to gather information about a users use of a computer. It is determined as reporting to the virus developer anything from personal data, internet usage, key strokes, passwords and even credit card info.
Adware – Not necessarily malicious, but software that causes pop-up adverts in order to generate revenue for its developer.
