If you turned off Automatic LiveUpdate or have been offline, you can check when you last received Norton device security updates and run LiveUpdate, if necessary, to assure that you have the latest
- virus definitions that help protect your device against malware, unauthorized network access, spam emails, and much more.
- program updates that extend operating system or hardware compatibility, adjust performance issues, or fix program errors.
While your subscription is current, Norton makes it easy to automatically receive updates that help protect you from emerging threats.
STEP 1: Check when Norton was last updated
- Start Norton.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click .
- In the Norton main window, click .
- Under the security status indicator, check the date next to Protection Updates.
- If the date is older than a day or two, run LiveUpdate.
STEP 2: Run LiveUpdate to get the latest Norton updates
Make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
- Start Norton.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click .
- In the Norton main window, double-click Security, and then click .
- In the Norton LiveUpdate window, when LiveUpdate completes, click
.
If LiveUpdate has failed due to some reasons, you can run Intelligent Updater to get the latest updates.
STEP 3: Run Intelligent Updater if LiveUpdate has failed
- Go to the Intelligent Updater downloads page.
- Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:
- For Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista/XP 32-bit: Click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i32.exe. For example, 20130528-017-v5i32.exe
- For Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista 64-bit: Go to the 64-bit Platforms section, and click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i64.exe. For example, 20130528-017-v5i64.exe
Windows Vista and Windows XP devices with Norton are supported in Maintenance Mode.
- Save the file to the Windows desktop.
- On the desktop, double-click the file that you saved.
STEP 4: Make sure that Norton Automatic LiveUpdate is turned on
- Start Norton.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click .
- In the Norton product main window, click .
- In the Settings window, click .
- In the Antivirus settings window, click the tab.
- In the Automatic LiveUpdate row, move the switch to .
- Click .
- In the Settings window, click .
STEP 5: Set Norton to apply updates without restarting your device
On Windows 7/8.1 or later devices, you can apply updates without restarting your computer.
- Start Norton.
If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.
- In the Norton product main window, click .
- In the Settings window, click .
- In the Antivirus settings window, click the tab.
- In the Apply updates only on reboot row, do one of the following:
- To receive LiveUpdate notifications asking if you want to apply updates without restarting, move the switch to . This is the default setting.
- To apply updates only after you restart your computer, move the switch to .
- In the Settings window, click , and then click .
