If you have to reinstall Avira Exchange Security or perform an upgrade to the latest version and you need to save the quarantines manually, please proceed as follows:

I. Back up the quarantines

The quarantines that need to be backed up are located in the subfolder of “Quarantine”.

  • Default Quarantine
  • Infected Mails
  • Information-Store-Quarantine

C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Avira Exchange Security\AviraData\Quarantine\

If there is any content in the “Badmail” folder back up this data too.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Avira Exchange Security\AviraData\Badmail\

II. Rename the quarantines

To reuse the saved quarantines as archives in the Avira Security Exchange, the following folders must be renamed:

  • Default Quarantine
  • Infected Mails
  • Information-Store-Quarantine

Rename these quarantines (e.g. Infected Mails in Infected Mails_Archive).

III. Copy the quarantines back

Once you have successfully reinstalled or updated Avira Security Exchange, copy the renamed quarantines to the respective directories:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Avira Exchange Security\AviraData\Quarantine\

If you have previously secured any content from the former “Badmail” folder, include as well that content in the new “Badmail” folder.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Avira Exchange Security\AviraData\Badmail\

Note
The directory structure of the new version 17 of Avira Exchange Security has changed.
The installation directory is located in the 64-bit directory i.e.
C:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Exchange Security\

IV. Create quarantines

Open the Avira Exchange Security Management Console.
Proceed to the path Basic Configuration → Folders → Quarantines and create the same quarantines you pasted previously. To do this, right-click the right-hand console pane and select New → Quarantine.

Note
Make sure that the quarantine names you create are identical to the renamed quarantines.
In this case:

  • Default Quarantine_Archive
  • Infected Mails_Archive
  • Information-store-quarantine_Archive

Subsequently, you can access these quarantines via the “Avira Monitor” within the Avira Exchange Security Manager. Avira Exchange Security → Avira Monitor → Servers → [your_server] → Quarantine Areas.
