If you cannot uninstall the non-Norton security products from your computer, we recommend that you use the dedicated removal utility or instructions that is designed specifically for each product. Before you remove the product, we recommend that you create a System Restore point.
Depending on your operating system, select one of the following.
I have Windows
Create a System Restore point on Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista
- Press the + keys to open the Run dialog box.
- Type in the following text, and then press .
sysdm.cpl
- In the System Properties window, on System Protection tab, click .
- Enter a description for the restore point, and then click .
If you cannot create the restore point, then increase free disk space and try to create the restore point.
Create a System Restore point on Windows XP
- Press the + keys to open the Run dialog box.
- Type in the following text, and then press .
rstrui.exe
- In the System Restore window, click .
- Enter a description for the restore point, and then click .
If you cannot create the restore point, then increase free disk space and try to create the restore point.
Remove the non-Norton security product
- Select the non-Norton security product, that you want to remove:
- Avast
- AVG
- BitDefender
- BullGuard
- Total Defense Cleaner Tool
- ESET
- F-Secure
- Kaspersky Internet Security
- McAfee
- Panda
- Trend Micro
- Webroot
- Sophos
- Trusteer Endpoint Protection (Rapport)

STEP 1: Uninstall the third-party security software
- Click the icon in the Dock to be in the Finder.
- On the menu bar, click > .
- Do one of the following:
- If an app isn’t in a folder or doesn’t have an Uninstaller, drag the app from the Applications folder to the Trash, then choose > .
- If the app is in a folder, open the app’s folder to check for an Uninstaller. If you see Uninstall App or App Uninstaller, double-click it.
Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the app.
- After completing the uninstall, restart your Mac and install Norton.
If the problem persists, go to step 2 to run the RemoveCompetitiveProducts tool.
STEP 2: Download and run the RemoveCompetitiveProducts tool
- Download the RemoveCompetitiveProducts tool.
Unless you save it elsewhere, the file is downloaded into the Downloads folder.
- Click the icon in the Dock to be in the Finder.
- On the menu bar, click > to go to the Downloads folder.
- In the Downloads folder, double-click the file to expand it.
If you use Safari, the file is automatically extracted after you download it. Skip to line 5 to open the file in Terminal.
- In the Downloads folder, right-click or control-click the RemoveCompetitiveProducts.command file, and then click > .
- If you see a prompt that the tool is from an unidentified developer, click to continue.
- In the Terminal window, type your administrator password to authenticate, and then press . When you type your password, no characters appear.
After the tool finishes removing the third-party security software and its remnants, it displays the message “Competitive Products of Norton removed successfully”.
- Exit all programs, and restart your Mac.
