A child can view the total amount of time that is allowed to use the device and the amount of time remaining to use the device. Norton Family notifies the child 15 minutes before the restricted time reaches or the end of allowed time usage. It also provides a one-minute countdown when the child reaches the restricted time period or allowed time has been used for the day.

When the child exceeds the allowed time to use the device, Norton Family blocks the child to use the device based on the house rule that you have set. Your child can send you a request for time extension and based on your decision, they can continue using the device till the extended time.

View the remaining time to use the computer

  1. Log on to your device.
  2. In the notification area, at far right of the taskbar, click the Norton Family icon.
  3. Click View Time Remaining.

A message notifies the amount of time remaining and the time period in which the curfew is in effect.

Extend the computer usage time

This is not applicable if your child’s computer runs on Windows XP or Windows Vista. Your child also cannot request you for more time from the time limit reached alert. However, you can Extend User Time by signing in to your account from any Internet-enabled device. To get the best from Norton Family, we recommend that you upgrade your child’s Windows operating system to a higher version.

Extend User Time from Parent account

  1. Log on to the child’s device.
  2. In the notification area, at far right of the taskbar, click the Norton Family icon.
  3. Click Extend User Time and sign in with your email address and password.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • Click Until the next sign-in or rest of the day.
    • Click Until and choose a time period.
  5. Click Save.

Send the time extension request for a child

You can send a request to your parents or extend the device using the PIN that your parent has shared.

Send a time extension request
  1. In the time’s up screen, click I need more time or Ask your parents for more time.
  2. Under I need, select the duration until which you want to extend, and add a note to your parent to help them decide.
  3. Click Submit.
  4. If your parent approves the request, your device time extends automatically.

If your parent declines a request, you will not be able to do a request until the end of the curfew period or end of the day based on the policy enforcement at the time of extension request.

Extend the device using a PIN
  1. In the time’s up screen, click Extend your time by using PIN.
  2. Enter the PIN that your parent had communicated with you.
  3. Click Submit.

View the remaining time to use the Android device

  2. Under Rules For This Device, tap the time limit rule.
  3. In the Rule Details window, see the remaining time that left on this device today.
