The ERA Virtual Appliance (ERA VA) is available for users who want to run ESET Remote Administrator in a virtualized environment. Additionally, the ERA Virtual Appliance simplifies deployment of ESET Remote Administrator and is faster than using the All-in-one installer or component installation packages.
The ERA VA can be deployed in most virtual environments. It supports native/bare-metal hypervisors (VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V) as well as hosted hypervisors that usually run on desktop operating systems (VMware Workstation, VMware Player and Oracle VirtualBox), see Supported hypervisors for a complete list.
This guide describes in detail how to deploy and manage ERA VA, including its new features:
•ERA Virtual Appliance Management Console – is a simple Text-based user interface (TUI) which has a menu that provides the user with various options. Each option or a feature is in a form of an interactive mode asking you to specify values when necessary and guiding you through step-by-step. It is much easier compared to typing and executing numerous commands with a complex syntax in the terminal. This way, even users who don’t have advanced experience with CentOS 7 or other Linux operating systems can use and manage ERA VA with ease. Features that are especially worth mentioning are:
oSet static IP address – manually specify static IP address in case your ERA VA is not assigned an IP address by DHCP server.
oPull database from other server – if you need to upgrade or migrate your ERA VA.
oBackup and restore of ERA database – are features that allows you to establish disaster recovery strategy and help in case of problems with ERA VA.
oFactory reset – puts the appliance to its original state as when freshly deployed. You can use it in case of issues with your ERA VA, provided that you have a backup of the database.
•Webmin Management Interface – is a third-party web based interface that simplifies the management of a Linux system. It gives you the convenience of managing your ERA VA remotely from your web browser using an intuitive interface. The most important modules of Webmin are described in this document.
