Norton Safe Search is Norton’s secure search engine that helps protect users from visiting phishing and other risky sites that may appear in search results. It uses Norton’s Safe Web technology, along with the Ask.com search engine, to rate websites according to their safety.

You can use Norton Safe Search even when you turn off the Password Manager features.

Norton Safe Search is supported only in Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome browsers.

Add Norton Safe Search in Google Chrome

  1. After you install Norton for the first time, when you start Google Chrome, the Browser Protection page automatically opens in a new window.

    You can also launch the Browser Protection page by clicking the Set Up Now option in the Internet Security pillar.

  2. In the Browser Protection page, click the Click to Add option of Norton Safe Search.
  3. In the extensions pop-up that appears, click Add Extension.

    To enable all the Norton extensions in Google Chrome, click Add All Norton Extensions for Free and follow the on-screen instructions.

Add Norton Safe Search in Mozilla Firefox

  1. After you install Norton for the first time, when you start Mozilla Firefox, the Browser Protection page automatically opens in a new window.

    You can also launch the Browser Protection page by clicking the Set Up Now option in the Internet Security pillar.

  2. In the Browser Protection page, click the Enable option of Norton Safe Search.
  3. In the extensions pop-up that appears, click Add Extension.

    To enable all the Norton extensions in Google Chrome, click Add All Norton Extensions for Free and follow the on-screen instructions.

Enable or disable Norton Safe Search in Microsoft Internet Explorer

When you install Norton, it adds the Norton Security toolbar to Internet Explorer. When you open Internet Explorer, you are prompted to enable Norton Safe Search on your toolbar.

  1. Open your browser.
  2. On the Norton Security toolbar, click the settings (…) icon.
  3. In the menu that appears, move the slider next to Norton Safe Search to enable or disable Norton Safe Search.

Configure Norton Safe Search as default search provider in Windows 10 TH2 in Microsoft Internet Explorer

After you upgrade your computer from Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or Windows 7 to Windows 10 TH2, Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 may prompt you to set your default search provider and Home page settings.

To continue using Norton Safe Search as your default Home page and default search provider, in the Choose your home page and search settings window, select Your current settings, and click Done.

  1. Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type in the following text, and then press Enter.

  3. In the Internet Properties window, on the Programs tab, click Manage add-ons.
  4. In the Manage Add-ons window, under Add-on Types, click Search Providers.
  5. Select Norton Safe Search and click Set as default.
  6. Click Close.
  7. In the Internet Properties tab, click OK.
