The Network Cost Awareness settings window lets you set up policies to restrict the Internet usage of Norton.

You can choose a communication policy that suits your Internet connection. If you have unlimited Internet plan, you can set up No Limit policy so that Norton connects to Norton servers to ensure complete protection. However, if you think that Norton uses too much of your Internet connection, you can restrict the Internet usage of Norton. The Network Cost Awareness feature helps you manage the Internet usage of Norton.

To connect to the Internet, Norton accesses the gateway through a network connection. The connecting device can be a 3G phone, an Internet data card, or a wireless network card. The Network Cost Awareness feature lets you set up policy for each network connection that Norton uses to connect to the Internet.

The Network Cost Awareness settings window lists all the network connection that Norton uses to connect to the Internet.

The Network Cost Awareness settings window displays the following information:

Network Connection Displays all the network connections that are available.
Policy Displays the network policy for each of the network connections.

You can set up different network policies for each network connection that is available in the Network Cost Awareness settings window.

In Use Displays the network connection that Norton currently uses to connect to the Internet.

You can see a checkmark icon for the network connection that is currently in use.

You can set up one of the following policies for each network connection that Norton uses to connect to the Internet:

Auto Allows Norton to receive all product and virus definition updates based on the Windows cost awareness policy.

The Auto option is available only in Windows 8 or later.

No Limit Allows Norton to use the network bandwidth that is required to ensure complete protection. If you use Windows 7 or earlier, the default policy is set to No Limit.

NortonLifeLock recommends that you set the No Limit option for the default network connection. This action ensures that Norton receives all of the latest virus definitions and program updates.

Economy Allows Norton to access the Internet only to receive critical product updates or virus definitions.

If you have a limited Internet connection, you can select the Economy option to ensure protection from different security threats.

No Traffic Blocks Norton from connecting to the Internet. If you choose this policy, Norton cannot receive critical virus definitions and program updates, which can lead to potential dangers and virus attacks.
