This article will guide you through the different update options of your G DATA Business solution.

There are two different update options for your software: Virus signature updates and Program updates.

Virus signature updates ensure that your computer stays protected against the most recent threats.

By default, these updates are done automatically and hourly, however it is also possible to trigger an update manually which will be explained below.

Program updates are available occasionally and their purpose is to introduce new features to your software or to improve the existing ones. They are recommended but not mandatory.

The latest program version currently is: 14.1.1.49

To check the program version of your software, open G DATA Administrator then click on the question mark (?) in the menu at the top and choose “About G DATA Administrator”. On the window which opens, the program version will be displayed below the name of the product.

  1. Virus Signature Updates

There are two different ways to update your virus signatures; via the G DATA Administrator or the Internet Update tool.

On the G DATA Administrator, this option is accessible from the ManagementServers tab via Updates > Signature Updates > Run update now.

However the update is done in the background this way and there is no indication of its progress.

If you wish to keep track of the progress and see the size of the update, run it via the Internet Update tool as follows:

Step 1. Open your list of installed applications and open Internet Update (located in the folder G DATA).

Alternatively, you can also run the executable file IUpdate.exe located in the installation folder of the ManagementServer (by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\G DATA\G DATA Antivirus ManagementServer\)

Step 2. To update the virus definitions, click on Update virus database…

  1. Program Updates

The program files of the ManagementServer and of the Security Clients are updated separately.

By default, the Security Client’s program files are automatically updated after the server has been updated.

To configure this option, proceed as follows:

On the G DATA Administrator, use the selection menu on the left to select either your whole ManagementServer, a client or a group of clients, then go to Client settings > General.

Under Updates, you can choose which type of update should be automatically deployed to the selected client(s).

To start a program update of the ManagementServer you have to run the Internet Update tool.

On the Internet Update tool, click Update program files (server)…

Now that the ManagementServer is up-to-date, the clients will load the update the next time they connect to the server.

The frequency depends on the synchronization time, which can be configured via the following menu of G DATA Administrator: ManagementServers > General settings > Synchronization.

If the option allowing the clients to get program updates automatically has been disabled, you can update any client or group of clients manually as follows:

Step 1. On the G DATA Administrator, go to Clients > Overview.

Step 2. Select any client or group of clients, then right-click on it.

Click Update program files now.
