A scan is performed to search for infected files and malware. Kaspersky Small Office Security features several types of scans that vary in their duration and scope:

  • Full Scan. Scans all areas of the computer. Requires a lot of time.
  • Quick Scan. Scans objects that are loaded when the operating system starts, and scans the system memory and boot files. Does not require much time.
  • Selective Scan. Scans a selected file or folder.
  • Removable Drives Scan. Scans removable drives that are connected to the computer.

After installing Kaspersky Small Office Security, you are advised to run a full scan of the computer.

 

How to run a full scan or quick scan of the computer

You are advised to close other applications before running a full scan. How to start a scan:

  1. In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Scan. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
  2. Select Full Scan or Quick Scan.
  3. Click Run scan.
  4. Select an action to take when the scan is finished:
    • Keep the computer turned on.
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Switch the computer to sleep mode.
    • Switch the computer to hibernation mode.
    • Restart the computer.

The scan will be started. By default, the action recommended by Kaspersky Lab experts will be performed when a threat is detected.

 

How to run a scan of individual files or folders

  1. In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Scan. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
  2. Choose Selective Scan.
  3. Click Add, select the files or folders and click Select. You can also drag files that you want to scan to the application window.
  4. Click Run scan.

The scan will be started. By default, the action recommended by Kaspersky Lab experts will be performed when a threat is detected.

 

How to run an External Device Scan

When you connect external drives to the computer, the Removable drive detected window appears in the notification area. To run a device scan, click Scan.

To run an external device scan from the application:

  1. In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Scan. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
  2. Click External Device Scan.
  3. Select an external device and click Run scan.

The scan will be started. By default, the action recommended by Kaspersky Lab experts will be performed when a threat is detected.

 

How to configure a scan schedule

  1. In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security click Scan. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
  2. Click Scan schedule in the lower-left corner and select the scan type:
    • Full Scan.
    • Quick Scan.
    • Vulnerability Scan.
  3. Select the time period for running the scan.
  4. Select the scan start settings. Click Save.
The scan will be performed automatically according to the settings that you have set.
 

How to view a scan report

  1. In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Scan. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
  2. Click Task Manager.
  3. Click Detailed report under the scan.
  4. Select the scan task and click Details in the lower-right corner.
Information about the scan progress will be displayed on the screen.
 

How to stop a scan

  1. In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Scan. To learn how to open the application, please refer to the instructions in this article.
  2. Click Task Manager.
  3. Click Stop.
The scan will be stopped.
 

What to do if an error occurred while scanning

If an error occurred while running a scan, look for a solution in this article.

If the error persists, submit a request to Kaspersky Lab technical support via the Kaspersky Small Office Security Management Console.
