In general, if your device meets the minimum system requirements for Avira Antivirus the impact on your computer’s performance should be negligible.

Avira Antivirus minimum system requirements
Operating system Windows 10 (32-bit or 64-bit).
Windows 8.1 (32-bit or 64-bit).
Windows 8 (32-bit or 64-bit).
Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) Service Pack 1 or higher with the latest updates, hotfixes, and service packs installed.
CPU type Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 Processor or faster (with support for the SSE2 instructions set).
RAM 2 GB of RAM or more.
Disk Space Minimum 2 GB of free disk space (additional space for temporary and quarantine files needed).
Browser Internet Explorer 8 or later.
Additional requirements To install, you’ll need administrator rights, an internet connection, and a web browser. For automatic antivirus updates and optimal malware detection, you’ll need an internet connection.

Avira Web Protection
works very fast. The search process delays the download speed only slightly and is only minimally perceptible.

If Avira Real-Time Protection slows down the system a little, you have to configure the limits for on-access archives.

Other factors that could slow down the system
  • Antivirus programs on a system disprove the saying “Better safe than sorry”. Two antiviruses running simultaneously might see each other as malicious and their real-time protection may cause conflicts during scanning. Using multiple antivirus programs will even further weaken your computer’s performance.

Note
Windows Defender Antivirus is automatically installed and active on all Windows 10 operating systems. Windows Defender is automatically disabled when a non-Microsoft antivirus program is installed.

  • Over time, the amount of unnecessary data on your device such as registry entries of uninstalled programs, junk files, unwanted toolbars, and adware may increase. You can use optimization software to clean up the junk files and optimize your drive.
  • Bugs and vulnerabilities in software can also lead to computer slowdowns. Make sure your operating system and programs are up to date.
