FREEDOME VPN cannot be automatically upgraded to version 2.32 or newer on Mac.

Note: This topic is valid for you if you are using FREEDOME VPN version 2.31 or earlier.

The upgraded version will be offered to the existing users but, due to a technical issue, it cannot be automatically installed and the following message will be shown:

Update cannot be installed

Downloaded update package is not valid and cannot be installed right now. We will try to download it again later. You can also try to update manually by downloading and executing installer from: https://download.sp.f-secure.com/freedome/installer/2/Freedome.pkg.

To upgrade FREEDOME VPN to the latest version, click the Update now button or open the link in your web browser to download the new version. Despite the message, this version must be manually upgraded. The automatic upgrade won’t work later either.

You can then install the downloaded upgrade on the top of the existing FREEDOME VPN installation. You don’t need to uninstall the existing version.

To install the new version:

  1. Download the new version by clicking Download in the upgrade notification. Alternatively, you can download the new version from https://freedome.f-secure.com/.
  2. Once the download is finished, quit FREEDOME VPN by clicking the FREEDOME VPN menu bar icon and selecting Quit.

Note: If you don’t quit FREEDOME VPN now, you will be requested to quit the app before you can continue with the installation.

  3. Launch the downloaded Freedome.pkg installer located in the Downloads folder on your Mac.

Note: If you have kept the FREEDOME VPN installer from an earlier download, make sure that you launch the version you just downloaded.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Note: Depending on the user rights on your account, you may be prompted for administrator account. In that case, enter your administrator credentials.

Note: Depending on your operating system version, you may see a dialog confirming the administration: “Installer would like to administer your computer. Administration can include modifying passwords, networking and system settings.” To allow this, click OK.
