Issue

  • The “Attention required: Anti-Theft optimization warning” notification displays on the home screen of your ESET product
‘Windows Phantom Account’ cannot be created on a domain

When your ESET product is installed on a computer that is connected to a domain, it is not possible to resolve the ‘Phantom Windows Account’ needed notification because Windows is not able to verify new user accounts on the domain.

  • You added your device to the Anti-Theft portal in your myESET account, but it is not fully optimized
  • Resolve the ‘Phantom Windows Account’ Needed issue
  • Automatic Login is Enabled or ‘Phantom Windows Account’ Automatic Login is Enabled
  • Windows Accounts are Not Password Protected

Solution

  1. Open the main program window of your ESET Windows product.
  2. Click Optimization report.

  1. The myESET sign-in window will automatically open in your default web browser. Type the email address and password that you used to create your myESET account during installation and click Sign in.
Your myESET email and password

Your myESET email and password were created by you and are different than the ESET-issued Username and Password you received after purchasing your product. If this is your first time signing in to myESET, you will verify the email address assigned to the account before proceeding.

  1. Click Optimize this device for the device you need to optimize.

  1. Click Optimization.
You will see the issue(s) that need to be addressed. Click an issue below for instructions to resolve it:
  • ‘Phantom Windows Account’ Needed
  • Automatic Login is Enabled or ‘Phantom Windows Account’ Automatic Login is Enabled
  • Windows Accounts are Not Password Protected

‘Phantom Windows Account’ Needed

  1.  Log in to your myESET account, click Optimize this device for the device you need to optimize and then click Create Phantom Account.

  1. Type or copy/paste in a name for your Phantom Account and click Create Phantom account. The default Phantom Account name is “John.” This is the name that will be used if your device is marked as missing and you have not created a Phantom Account.

Automatic Login is Enabled or ‘Phantom Windows Account’ Automatic Login is Enabled

  1.  Log in to your myESET account, click Optimize this device for the device you need to optimize and then click Disable automatic login.

  1. Click Disable automatic login at the prompt to disable this feature in Windows.

Windows Accounts are Not Password Protected

Windows 10:
  1. On the device that is experiencing this issue, you will need to set a password for your Windows user accounts. To begin, click Start  and select Settings.

  1. Click Accounts.

  1. Click Sign-in options and then click Add in the Password section.

  1. Type your password into the New password and Reenter password fields.
  2. Type a password hint into the third field that will help you to remember your password should you forget it.
  3. Click Next → Finish. The notification for this issue will be removed after you restart your computer and log in to myESET.
