This error appears when the product key is typed incorrectly or if the product key is for a different product and version.

Make sure that your key is typed correctly

  • Type your product key again. Be very careful to type it exactly as it appears. Your product key is a combination of alphabetic and numeric characters. It does not contain any special characters.

If you purchased a boxed product online or at a local retail store, your product key is inside the box or printed on a card in the box.

If the problem persists, try the following solutions,

Download and install the correct product

  • Verify that you have entered your product key on the correct product. To download and install the latest version of the product that is registered to your account, see Install Norton device security .

Log in to the correct Norton account

  • If you have more than one Norton account, verify that the product key you entered is registered to the Norton account you are logged into.
  • Sign in to your account, verify the product key that you entered is available in the My Subscription page.

Update to the latest version of Norton

  1. Go to Norton Update Center.
  2. Click Update Me Now.

If the download does not start automatically, download the program manually.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your Norton product to the latest version. Once the latest version is installed, activate using the product key.

Norton Utilities Premium or Norton Utilities Ultimate

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. In the My Subscription page scroll down, under Norton Utilities Premium or Norton Utilities Ultimate, you can find the product key.

Write down or copy the product key.

  3. Open Norton Utilities Premium or Norton Utilities Ultimate.
  4. Click Activate Now.
  5. Enter the Norton Utilities Premium or Norton Utilities Ultimate product key and click Activate now.

If you see any errors while activation, it is likely that the product key you have entered is incorrect or it is for a different product. Check if the product key is entered correctly and try activating again.

Common mistakes when entering product key

    • Spaces in the product key will cause an error.
    • Make sure you are entering license information for the specific product you are using. License information for one Norton product is not interchangeable with another Norton product.

For example, you cannot use the product key for your Norton protection to activate Norton Utilities Premium or Norton Utilities Ultimate. You can find the product key for Norton Utilities Premium or Norton Utilities Ultimate in the My Subscription page of your account.

    • If you still see a message indicating incorrect or invalid licensing information, verify that you typed the license information exactly as shown.

Some characters (such as the number 0 and the letter O) can look very similar. Try double-checking the following: the letters O, l (lower-case l), I (capital I); and the numbers 0 (zero) and 1 (one).

If you are still seeing invalid license information messages, contact Member Services & Support.
