If you cannot access files on the computer where AVG Firewall is intalled from another computer in your local network, it is necessary to enable Microsoft file sharing and printing in the system services. Please proceed as follows:

  1. Open the AVG User Interface.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Firewall settings.
  3. On the left pane, under Profiles, expand your default profile (e.g. Small home or office network), and then click System services.
  4. Select the MS Printer and File Sharing service.
  5. Switch the System rule details in the Action column to Allow for all.
  6. Click OK.

If the computer is connected directly to the Internet, please restrict this rule to safe networks only. To create a safe network:

  1. Open the AVG User Interface.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Firewall settings.
  3. On the left pane, under Profiles, expand your default profile (e.g. Directly connected to the Internet), and then click Defined networks.
  4. Click Add network.
  5. Type a name for your new network (e.g. Local network).
  6. Select the Network is safe check box.
  7. Click Add IP.
  8. Specify the network range, and then click OK.
  9. Open the MS Printer and File Sharing service again and switch the System rule details to Allow for safe.

Note: By default the Microsoft file sharing and printing service is enabled only for safe networks in the Small home or office networks profile. When using this profile, please create a new safe network using the steps above.
