Problem
Your installation of a McAfee Windows security product, such as LiveSafe or Total Protection, failed with the following message:

No Internet connection
Solution
Step 1: Check internet connection
If you see this message, confirm that you have a working internet connection on the PC. You can check the connection by trying to open different websites.
Step 2: Internet connection is OK, but you still see the error message
Use the following methods to resolve the issue:

  1. To remove any third-party firewalls or security software applications that are on your computer, follow the steps in: TS102253 – How to remove incompatible third-party applications. When you have completed the steps in TS102253, download and run the Pre-Install Tool.
NOTE: Save the file to a temporary location, such as your desktop.
  1. Double-click the Pre-Install_Tool.exe file, and follow the prompts.
  2. Read the warning message, and click OK to agree to the changes.
  3. After the Preinstall Tool completes:
    1. Click OK.
    2. Click Close.
    3. Restart your computer.
  1. Try installing your McAfee Windows security product again. If you still have a problem, expand the next topic to delete temporary internet files and cookies.

Temporary internet files can cause issues. Try deleting these files and your browser history:
  1. Open Internet Explorer and click the Tools menu.
  2. Select Internet Options.
  3. Under Browsing History, click Delete.
  4. Select only Temporary Internet Files and Cookies, and then click Delete again.
  5. Try installing your McAfee Windows security product again. If you still have a problem, expand the next topic to change the browser settings.
NOTE: If you use a browser other than Internet Explorer, follow the steps for that browser to delete temporary files.

Modify the Advanced Internet Options in Internet Explorer.
  1. Open Internet Explorer and click the Tools menu.
  2. Select Internet Options.
  3. Select the Advanced tab.
  4. Click Restore advanced settings. Or, do the following:
    1. Deselect the following:
      • Use SSL 2.0
      • Use SSL 3.0
    2. Select the following:
      • Use TLS 1.0
      • Use TLS 1.1 (if it exists)
      • Use TLS 1.2 (if it exists)
      • Check for server certificate revocation
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Try installing your McAfee Windows security product again. If you still have a problem, contact Technical Support.
