If you have a license assigned to a computer that you no longer use, deactivate and reactivate that license on your new computer:

  1. On your new computer, go to home.mcafee.com.
  2. Hover your mouse over My Account, and then click My Account from the list of options.
  3. Type your wp-signup.phped email address and password, and then click Log In.
  4. Select the computer you want to remove the license from.
  5. Click Deactivate.
  6. To begin the install on your new computer, click Download.
  7. Follow the instructions to download and install your McAfee software.

If you have used all available licenses in your subscription and you need to install McAfee on another computer, you must purchase another license. On your main account screen, click Buy Now beside the product you want to buy another license for. Then, follow the instructions to complete your purchase.

Some McAfee subscriptions allow installation on more than one computer. You can see the number of available licenses in each subscription using the following steps:

  1. Open a web browser and go to home.mcafee.com.
  2. Hover your mouse over My Account, and then click Sign In from the list of options.
  3. Type your wp-signup.phped email address and password, and then click Log In.
  4. Select the + tab.
  5. Select the type of device you want to protect. The available licenses appear as follows:

Total Licenses: 3 (1 in use; 2 available)

This message means that you have two more licenses, which you can use to protect two other computers.

  6. Select the product with available licenses and click Download.
  7. Follow the on-screen download and installation instructions.

NOTE: If there are no licenses available, you can purchase more. Hover your mouse over My Account, find your purchase under Subscriptions, and select Buy.

If there is a license associated with a computer you no longer own or no longer want to protect, Deactivate that installation. You can then apply it to the other computer.

Your McAfee software allows you to conveniently upgrade your existing subscription to protect more computers:

  1. Double-click the McAfee icon in your taskbar.
  2. Click Your Subscription.
  3. Click Buy a Subscription.
  4. Click Buy Now.
  5. Type in your billing information and select your payment preference.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your purchase.
Your subscription information and your upgrade are shown shortly in My Account.

You do not need to manually update or upgrade if you use one of our subscription service products. With a subscription, McAfee automatically makes sure that your products are running the latest versions when they are available, and updates your services as needed.

McAfee products update automatically at regular intervals; but, you can also manually check for updates at any time. To check:

  1. Right-click the McAfee icon in your taskbar on the lower-right corner of your screen.
  2. Select Check for updates.
  3. Wait for the process to complete.
  4. Open your McAfee product and verify the status bar is green and shows: Your computer is secure. If the status bar is red, you have a potential security risk.
McAfee recommends that you set your subscription services to be automatically renewed for continued security. The automatic renewal option is a feature that makes sure your virus protection is not interrupted. For details about the Auto-Renewal program, see TS102149 – FAQs for the McAfee Auto-Renewal program.

McAfee products with expired subscriptions still work but do not receive updates, and so can’t protect you from new threats.

When your subscription expires, you can no longer download new updates and virus definition files. You can still use the product, but you are not protected from threats newer than the last update before it expired. If your subscription has expired, or expires soon, McAfee strongly recommends that you renew the license at home.mcafee.com.

McAfee allows you to conveniently extend the duration of your subscription and keep your computer protected:
