Norton Family allows your children to explore the web freely, while letting you know when and where they spend time online.
Use the information below to set up Norton Family and help your kids enjoy the Internet safely. You can also set up Norton Family on your mobile device to get instant alerts and to change your family settings at any time. For more information, read Set up Norton Family on a parent device.
Sign in to Norton
- Sign in to your account.
If you do not have a Norton account, click and complete the sign-up process.
- Type in your username or email address and password, and then click .
- Do one of the following:
- If your account has a Norton Family subscription or a subscription with Parental Controls, click in the Parental Controls tile.
- If you do not have a Norton Family subscription associated with this account, you can subscribe to it from Norton.com.
- Read the Terms of Service and other policies, and then click to set up your family.
Add a child to your account
- In the Child Name box, type the child’s name.
The name must not contain special characters such as &, #, or $.
- Select the restriction level based on your child’s age.
Norton Family applies house rules based on the restriction level that you choose.
- Choose or to set a profile picture for your child.
You can add more children to your account after you complete the set up for the first child.
- Click .
As you add each child, Norton Family applies house rules based on the child’s age. You can customize the house rules at any time to better suit each child’s maturity level.
You can add up to 15 children to your account. You can add or remove a child from your Norton Family account at any time.
Install Norton Family on your child’s device
Install Norton Family on each device that your child uses. If you are not on your child’s device, click
to send a download link in an email. Open this email on the device on which you want to install Norton Family.To install and use Norton Family, your device must meet minimum requirements. To know more, read System requirements to install and set up NortonLifeLock protection.
Install Norton Family on Windows
- Choose Windows and then click .
- If you are on the same computer that your child uses, select and then click .
If you want to install Norton Family on another device, select and then click , and then enter an email address to send a download link in an email. Open this link on the device on which you want to install Norton Family.
- Click or run the downloaded installer file.
- Norton Download Manager will automatically install Norton Family on the device.
- Read the User License Agreement and then click .
The device gets automatically linked to your account.
- Click .
- In the assign device window, click next to the child to whom you want to assign this device.
- Click and choose the account that the child uses to log on to this device. If your child uses multiple user accounts, choose the child on all those user accounts.
- Click > .
- Ensure that you have enabled Norton Family browser extension for the best protection. For more information, read Enable Norton Family browser extension.

Install Norton Family on Android
- If you are on the same device that your child uses, select and then tap to download the app from Google Play.
If you want to install Norton Family on another device, select , tap , and then enter an email address to send a download link in an email. Open this link on the device on which you want to install Norton Family app.
- Tap and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Open the Norton Family parental control app.
- Read the and other policies, and then tap .
- Sign in with your account credentials or partner code.
- Tap to get into child mode.
- Tap .
- Choose the child whom you want to assign this device, give a name that helps you identify this device, and then tap .
- Allow individual permission requests for Norton Family to start monitoring this device and do the following settings.
Norton Family requires app permissions for time supervision, app supervision, and other features to enable and monitor your child’s activities. For more information, see “Ensure app permissions are turned on” section in Things you should do for parental supervision on Android devices
- Tap and then tap to prevent your child from uninstalling the Norton Family app without your permission.
- Tap , and then tap and turn it on.
- Tap , select the Norton Family app from the list and then turn on Permit usage access.
- Once you see the green tick on all the required permissions, click .
These steps are general and may differ depending on the version of the Android OS.

Install Norton Family on iOS
- If you are on the same device that your child uses, select and then tap to download the app from App Store.
If you want to install Norton Family on another device, select , tap , and then enter an email address to send a download link in an email. Open this link on the device on which you want to install Norton Family app.
- Install Norton Family parental control application.
- Tap .
- Tap to receive notifications from Norton Family.
- Read the and other policies, and then tap .
- Sign in with your account credentials.
- Choose the child whom you want to assign this device and give a name that helps you identify this device. If you want to add a child, sign in to your account. For more information read, Add a child to your Norton Family account.
- Tap .
- Tap and follow the on-screen instructions.
VPN is required to monitor or block web activities that your child does using apps other than Norton Family browser.
- Allow individual permission requests for Norton Family to start monitoring this device.
- Tap and follow the on-screen instructions. For more information, read Install a profile on your child’s iOS device.
Profile installation is required for instant lock, time supervision, and other features to work on your child’s device.
