New functions include improved spam filtering and an increased detection rate thanks to the integration of the Avira Protection Cloud. The new version of Exchange Security also supports all the latest operating systems and Exchange versions.
2. Which Microsoft Exchange versions are supported?
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 (64-bit), including the latest update rollups
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 (64-bit), including Service packs up to SP2 and update rollups
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 (64-bit) on Windows Server 2012 (Avira Exchange Security installed on a mailbox server)
3. Which server operating systems are supported?
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2012/2012 R2
4. Which operating systems are supported for the Avira Exchange Security frontend?
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2012/2012 R2
  • Windows Server 2016
5. Where can I get the installation package?
Download the new Exchange Security installation kit. You can find it here.
Double-click the file and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. How do I migrate from the old to the new version? Which files should I back up?
Back up the file hbedv.key.

  1. Save the hbedv.key file from the path:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Avira Exchange Security\License
  2. If you also have to back up the quarantines, read this article.
  3. Uninstall the existing instance of Exchange Security via the Windows Control Panel. At the end of the uninstall process, checkmark the option “Remove all user and registration data”.
  4. Download the new Exchange Security installation kit.
  5. Install the downloaded kit.
  6. Copy the saved file to the corresponding path.
Note
The directory structure of the new version 14 of Avira Exchange Security has changed.
The installation directory is located in the 64-bit directory i.e.
C:\Program Files\Avira\Avira Exchange Security\

You cannot migrate configdata.xml from Avira Exchange Security 12 to Avira Exchange Security 14.

7. Can I migrate my customers for free?

Yes, it’s free to migrate to the new version of Exchange Security.

8. How do I license the new version?
Licensing for the new version of Exchange Security is the same as the old version (per protected mailbox). Nothing has changed.
9. Does the release also apply to Avira Exchange Security – Small Business Edition as part of Avira Antivirus for Small Business?

Yes. Avira Antivirus for Small Business customers now benefit from the new functions. Please uninstall the existing instance of Avira Exchange Security – Small Business Edition. Following that, download the new installation kit. You can find it here.

10. Has the user experience changed? Do I need to get used to a new interface?
The user interface remains largely the same, so you don’t need to get used to any new GUI.
