What is the difference between on-access and on-demand scanning? (Avira)

On-access scanning is performed by Avira Real-Time Protection, which scans files for viruses in real-time when they are opened, saved, and run.

On-demand scanning, on the other hand, is performed manually. You can select the drives and folders you want to scan.
