Kaspersky Internet Security 2018 offers the following scanning options:

  • Full Scan, which covers all available objects, including system memory, startup objects, system backup, hard drives, removable drives, and network drives.
  • Quick Scan, which covers only startup objects, system memory, and boot sectors of hard drives.
  • Selective Scan, which covers the objects of your choice.
  • External Devices Scan.

After you install Kaspersky Total Security 2018, we recommend that you update antivirus databases and run a full scan.

How to run a full or quick scan

When you start a full scan task, it is recommended that you close all other applications, because the process requires much resources and may slow down other software or your system. How to start a scan:

  1. Open Kaspersky Total Security 2018. For the guide on how to open the application window, see this article.
  2. Click Scan.

  1. Select Quick Scan or Full Scan.
  2. In the right frame, click Run scan.

How to scan a specific file or folder

  1. Open Kaspersky Total Security 2018. For guide on how to open the application interface, see this article.
  2. Click Scan.

  1. Click Selective Scan.
  2. Select a file to scan: click Add and select an object or drag-and-drop the object into the window. You can select multiple files.

  1. Check if you selected all the files you want to scan and click Run scan.

How to run External Device Scan

Normally, when you connect a removable drive, the application will show you the notification “Removable drive detected“. To scan the device for viruses, click Scan.

If you skipped this scan earlier or the notification did not appear:

  1. Open Kaspersky Total Security 2018. For guide on how to open the application interface, see this article.
  2. Click Scan.

  1. In the Scan window, click the link External Device Scan.
  2. In the drop-down list, select the device to scan. You can scan all connected devices at once.
  3. Click Run scan.

How to run a scan task remotely

You can run a scan task remotely via My Kaspersky. You can send commands from any device connected to the Internet. For a detailed guide on running a remote virus scan, see  this article.

 

How to view scan results

  1. In the Scan window, select Task Manager. In this section, you can observe the scanning process and see when the scan was started or stopped.
  2. Click Detailed report to view detailed information on recent scans.

  1. In the Detailed reports window, select a scan task to open the information about it in the right frame. For further information about scanned objects, click Details.

How to stop a scan task

  1. Right-click the Kaspersky Total Security 2018 in the notification area of your Desktop and select Task Manager or the name of the scan task you want to stop.

  1. In the right frame of the Scan window, click Task Manager, then click Stop.
