Norton for Mac 8.x adds zero-day support for the upcoming macOS 10.15.x Catalina. If you received your Norton from your service provider, some of the following information may not be applicable.
All the customers on mac OS 10.10.x or later with an active Norton subscription are eligible for an update to Norton for Mac 8.x and will receive the update alert on the menu bar, or at the bottom of the screen.

Why should I upgrade my Norton to version 8.x?
- To protect your computer from outside threats, we always recommend you to update your Norton to the latest versions. It provides our latest protection technologies that help keep you safe day to day with a better user experience.
Also, Norton for Mac 7.x is not compatible with the new macOS 10.15.x Catalina. For maximum protection and using the latest features, we recommend that you install the latest version of macOS 10.15.x Catalina when available, and update your Norton to version 8.x.
Can I install Norton for Mac 8.x on my Mac?
- Norton for Mac 8.x is compatible with Mac OS X 10.10.x or later. If you have Mac OS X 10.7.x to 10.9.x, you will not receive the upgrade alert and can continue using Norton for Mac 7.x. You are fully protected using Norton for Mac 7.x and will receive all the future product updates and virus definition updates.
What’s new in version 8.x of Norton for Mac?
- A lot. Over the last year we’ve been adding more functionality into our 8.x product. Following are the new features added:
- Support for the upcoming, new macOS 10.15.x Catalina.
- URL Monitoring: Protect your browser application from malicious websites.

What happens when I accept the upgrade offer?
- If you accept the upgrade offer, Norton uninstalls the old version and installs the latest version. If the upgrade is interrupted or fails to complete, uninstall Norton using the RemoveNortonMacFiles tool.

Norton upgrade to version 8.x failed on my Mac due to a third-party security software. What do I do?
- To successfully install Norton, you need to remove the third-party security software that was detected, using the RemoveCompetitiveProducts tool.
